<461> Harry Dicher ("Sloop Harry" also "Henry Ditcher") -- Born 1734 (one source suggests 1720!). Parent.s unknown. Residing at Nomony Hall. in 1772, 1775, 1782, 1784 (tithable), 1785 (tithable), 1790, and 1791. Working as sailor from 1773 onward, but also engaged in ditching and banking on occasion. Serving on board Robert Carter's schooner in 1773; on the sloop Atwell in 1779 and 1781, cast away in Mobjack Bay on October 30, 1781. Serving on board the sloop Mayflower and the Machodoc flat from 1785 through 1787 and on the schooner Betsy in 1788 and afterwards. Charged with selling corn illegally in January 1776. Assisted in transporting black people from lower counties to the Shenandoah tract in April 1787. Over 45 years old in 1791. Emancipated by deed dated January 1, 1793; deed proved in Westmoreland County Court, February 27, 1793.
