<457> Samuel Harrison (Sam) -- Born 1740. Parents unknown; husband of Judith Harrison <466>; father of Harry Harrison <196) and others. Residing in Williamsburg sometinie prior to July 1772. Serving as barber to Robert Carter at Nornony Hall in December 1773 and probably earlier; described as waiter in 1790, as valet in 1792. Residing at Noniony Hall in 1782, 1784 (tithable), 1785 (tithable), 1790, and 1791. Ill with fever and ague in August 1774. His five-year-old son dead on September 1, 1774; none others have survived. Called on as doctor at Forest Quarter in 1776. A communing member of Morattico Baptist Church in March 1778. Dressed in mourning livery on death of Frances Tasker Carter in October 1787. Over 45 years old in 1791. On February 13, 1792, agreed to hire himself, wife and four of his children, along with tenement and one-and-a-half acres of ground where he then lived; in turn, agreed to continue to serve as Carter's barber without compensation. However, compensated for sundry jobs undertaken, January 1- February 13, 1792. Emancipated by deed dated January 1, 1793; deed proved in Westmoreland County Court, February 27, 1793.
