Stephen

<258> Stephen -- Born 1775. Parents unknown. Residing at Taurus in 1788, at Nomony Hall in 1790 ("assistant cook") and 1791 ("scullion"). Named in 1791 deed of emancipation. Scheduled for emancipation in 1796. In October 1793, Carter directed that Stephen should be sent to Baltimore to join Carter's household there. In July 1794, while still in Baltimore, Stephen fell ill with smallpox. He died on July 14 and was buried in Baltimore's potters field the next day.
