<146> Samuel Newman ("Sam") -- Born 1784. Described as of
"dark Complexion.' Son of Philiis Newman <420> and Sawney
(407>. Residing at Nomony Hall in 1790, 1791, and 1796.
Named in 1791 deed of emancipation. Scheduled for
emancipation in 1805. Emancipated by deed dated January 1,
1805, but deed refused by Frederick County Court in April.
Probably freed after 1808 ruling by Virginia Supreme Court
of Appeals. Registered as free in Westmoreland County,
