Dorcas Reid

Dorcas Reid (also spelled Darcus) -- Born 1772.
Daughter of Sarah Daly <474>; wife of Joe residing on the estate of a Mr. Thornton); mother of Clara <543> and Joe (544>. Residing at Old Ordinary in 1782, 1785, 1788, 1789,1791, and 1796. Named in 1791 deed of emancipation.Scheduled for emancipation in 1801. In September 1792, Carter refused to allow Dorcas to accompany her husband when he was transferred from the Nomony River vicinity to Upper Machotick River in King George County, about 25 miles distant. Dorcas was emancipated by a deed dated January 1,1801; deed proved in Frederick County Court, Februdry 2,1801. She was also named in a later deed dated December 21, 1803.
