Biography
Born 1782. Son of Ciller Jones (372). At Forest 1785/1791/1796. Scheduled free 1803. In 1798 sent to serve as waiter in Carter's Baltimore household. In 1800 Carter assigned James to Baltimore's overseer of public works; James ran away same day. Suffered 3 whippings within 5 weeks. Hired out to constable until Jan 18 1803 when Carter declared him free. Two days later requested Carter's help freeing his friend David from Baltimore jail.
