Parents unknown; husband of Rose Henry (434>; probably father ofEdmond Henry <249>, Alexander Henry <211>, Betty Henry (227>, Thadeus Henry (152>, Sally Henry (129), Henny [Henry?] <020>, Oliver [Henry?] (001>, and George Henry <523>. Residing at Nomony Hall in 1775, 1782, 1784 (tithable), 1785 (tithable), 1790, and 1791. Described as coachman in 1775 and afterward; also, acting as hostler in 1774 and afterward and very much in demand as a doctor among African-Americans, at least from 1787 onward. Traveled to Hobbs Hole on two occasions in 1775 with letters; to St. Mary's County, Maryland in 3uly 1777 on errand; to Washington Henry Academy in Hanover County in January 1781 with messages to Henry Toler; to Portsmouth in October 1781 to seek out people who left Coles Point with the British. Attended Robert Carter's riding chair in Baltimore in June 1782; accompanied Carter to the city of Richmond in September 1785; sent as an express to Richmond in September 1787, also to Georgetown in September 1791. Placed in mourning on the death of Frances Tasker Carter in November 1787. Named in 1791 deed of emancipation. Scheduled for emancipation in 1793. Emancipated by deed dated January 1, 1793; deed proved in Westmoreland County Court, February 28, 1793. Hired by John Tasker Carter at Nomony Hall after Robert Carter's removal to Baltimore in 1793. Drove Carter's coach overland from Westmoreland County to Baltimore in June 1793 and returned home the same month. Settled in Westmoreland County, where he was advising and assisting other free black people in April 1804.
