(477> Royal Colson (sometimes Ryal") -- Born 1741. Parents and other relatives unknown. Residing at. Coles Point in 1773, 1782, 1785 (tithable), 1788, 1790, and 1791. Described as cartman in 1788 and 1790. Ill with fever and ague in August 1788; subject to pains in 1790. Hired to James Gregory, Jr., gardener, in 1780 and 1781. Temporarily assigned to Dickerson's Mill in August 1787. Over 45 years old in 1791. Exempted from levies and taxes in Westmoreland County on May 31, 1791. Emancipated by deed dated January 1, 1793; deed proved in Westmoreland County Court, February 27, 1793.
