Biography

<139> Flora Cary -- Born 1786. Described as black. Daughter of Criss Cary <421>, although at one point she is listed among the children of Rachel <374>. Residing at Libra in 1788, 1791, and 1796. Named in 1791 deed of emancipation. Scheduled for emancipation in 1804. Emancipated by deed dated January 2, 1804; deed proved in Frederick County Court, April 4, 1804. In 1812, her six- year-old daughter Kezia was bound out to service by the Frederick County Court; in 1816, Kezia was released by the court from her first bond and transferred to another master until she arrived of age.
